The Manitou Springs Police Department is a community-oriented police agency that practices preventing crime as a top priority. The Police Department budget for FY2011 was $963,500. Reporting to the City Administrator the Police Chief is a member of the City's management team, and works closely with the City Council, and other area government agencies, in policy implementation, as well as providing excellent city services. The Police Chief must be accountable, responsive to issues, and able to provide leadership to the Police Department. The appointment of the new Police Chief is expected in March, 2012. The Candidate

Candidates should possess demonstrated management and leadership skills, excellent communication skills, high integrity, and the ability to promote and lead excellence in public safety services. In particular, candidates should be skilled at developing collaborative community partnerships, proactive problem solving, and able to recruit police personnel that are knowledgeable in community policing practices. Experience in developing and maintaining a positive departmental image in the community and through the media is critical. A bachelor's degree in a related area is required. A master's degree in a related field would be considered a plus. Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years experience, including 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience at the rank of lieutenant or higher. Colorado POST certification, or the ability to obtain Colorado certification, is also required. The position has a competitive salary and excellent benefit package.
